Kathy Pidgeon, Director
Kathy has over thirty years' experience in social care, working with a wide variety of people: children, vulnerable mothers and their babies, and adults with mental health issues and learning disabilities.
She also has over 15 years experience as a volunteer, principally with the National Childbirth Trust and with Riding for the Disabled. She was chair of the management board of the Stirling branch of Riding for the Disabled.
Kathy's life changed when she raised some concerns with a former employer over incorrect information supplied to a funding body and about safety issues. She didn't know at the time but this made her a whistleblower. She was subjected to the full force of the secret process used against whistleblowers in order to save the reputations of guilty people. Kathy was the victim of an 18 month campaign of lies spread by 2 managers to discredit her. A series of charges were trumped up against her to try and hound her out of her job. (Including "transmitting pornography from the office" for forwarding an inoffensive joke email!) An expensive HR consultant was paid to help psychologically break her so she would resign and sign a gagging order.
Kathy was astonished that this could happen in 21st century Britain. She thought this was a unique event. But she discovered she was not alone. This has happened to thousands of others. The secret Discredit - Banish - Silence process is commonly used against whistleblowers who try to help their employers by raising concerns over abuse, fraud, or even unnecessary deaths. Kathy has used her experience to help develop the unique training now offered by NJP Consultancy to protect whistleblowers and help employers prevent abuse of staff and clients: the Preventing a Toxic Workplace Culture course.
